Last Updated: 30 August 2026

THE STORIES ARE OURS TO TELL. THE RIGHTS ARE OURS TO PROTECT.

The Exchange with Femi Soneye (“The Exchange,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects intellectual property rights and is committed to protecting the original journalism, interviews, recordings, photography, written materials, graphics, designs and other creative works published through our platform.

This Copyright Policy explains how copyright applies to content published on The Exchange and how our content may and may not be used.

1. OWNERSHIP OF OUR CONTENT

Unless otherwise stated, the content published on The Exchange website and its official digital platforms is owned by, licensed to, or used with permission by The Exchange and/or the relevant rights holders.

This may include:

  • The Exchange name and brand identity;

  • Logos and visual assets;

  • Interview recordings;

  • Video and audio productions;

  • Photographs and portraits;

  • Written articles and editorial copy;

  • Episode descriptions and transcripts;

  • Graphics, illustrations and animations;

  • Website design and visual elements;

  • Promotional materials;

  • Original social media content; and

  • Other original creative and editorial materials.

All such material is protected by applicable copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws.

2. YOUR RIGHT TO ACCESS OUR CONTENT

You are welcome to access, watch, listen to and share publicly available content from The Exchange for personal, informational and non-commercial purposes, subject to these terms.

Accessing our content does not transfer ownership or grant you any intellectual property rights in that content.

You may not present our work as your own or use it in a way that suggests that The Exchange has endorsed or authorised your activities.

3. SHARING OUR CONTENT

We encourage audiences to share The Exchange and help meaningful conversations reach wider audiences.

You may share links to our website, episodes and official social media posts provided that:

  • The original source is clearly identified;

  • The content remains unaltered;

  • Appropriate attribution is maintained;

  • The sharing does not imply endorsement or partnership; and

  • The material is not used for unlawful or commercial purposes without permission.

Where a platform provides an official sharing function, we encourage you to use that function rather than downloading and re-uploading our content.

4. REPRODUCTION OF CONTENT

You may not reproduce, republish, redistribute, modify, adapt, publicly display, publicly perform, broadcast, sell or commercially exploit substantial portions of The Exchange's copyrighted material without prior written permission.

This includes reproducing:

  • Full episodes;

  • Significant portions of interviews;

  • Audio recordings;

  • Video recordings;

  • Transcripts;

  • Articles;

  • Photography;

  • Graphics;

  • Branded materials; or

  • Other substantial original content.

Unauthorised reproduction may constitute copyright infringement.

5. SHORT EXCERPTS AND QUOTATIONS

Limited quotations or excerpts may be used for legitimate purposes such as:

  • News reporting;

  • Commentary;

  • Criticism;

  • Review;

  • Research;

  • Education; or

  • Other purposes permitted under applicable law.

Where you use our material, you should provide clear attribution to The Exchange with Femi Soneye and, where possible, link to the original source.

The amount used should be reasonable and appropriate to the purpose.

Nothing in this section grants permission to reproduce substantial portions of our content.

6. COMMERCIAL USE

Commercial use of The Exchange content requires prior written permission.

This includes using our content:

  • In advertisements;

  • In paid promotional campaigns;

  • In commercial publications;

  • In corporate presentations;

  • In monetised digital channels;

  • In documentaries or productions;

  • In training or commercial products; or

  • In any other activity primarily intended to generate commercial value.

Permission may be granted subject to specific conditions, licensing terms or fees.

7. OUR BRAND AND TRADEMARKS

The Exchange name, logo, visual identity and other brand elements may be protected by trademark and other intellectual property rights.

You may not use our name, logo or other brand assets in a way that:

  • Suggests an unauthorised relationship with The Exchange;

  • Implies endorsement or sponsorship;

  • Causes confusion about the source of a product or service;

  • Damages the reputation of the brand; or

  • Uses the brand for commercial purposes without permission.

Requests to use The Exchange branding should be directed to our team.

8. GUEST CONTENT AND THIRD-PARTY MATERIAL

Not every piece of content appearing on The Exchange is necessarily owned exclusively by The Exchange.

Our programmes may contain:

  • Guest statements;

  • Guest photographs;

  • Licensed photographs;

  • Third-party video;

  • Archival material;

  • Music;

  • Logos;

  • Quotations; and

  • Other material belonging to third parties.

The rights in such material remain with their respective owners unless otherwise agreed.

You should not assume that permission to access content on The Exchange automatically gives you permission to reuse third-party material contained within it.

9. USER-SUBMITTED MATERIAL

If you submit photographs, videos, written material, recommendations or other content to The Exchange, you confirm that you have the necessary rights and permissions to submit that material.

You remain responsible for ensuring that your submission does not infringe another person's copyright, privacy, trademark or other rights.

By submitting material to us, you grant The Exchange the permissions reasonably necessary to review, process, publish or otherwise use that material for the purpose for which it was submitted, subject to our Privacy Policy and any specific agreement governing the submission.

10. COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

We take copyright infringement seriously.

If you believe that material published on The Exchange infringes your copyright or another intellectual property right, please contact us with sufficient information for us to investigate the matter.

Your notice should, where applicable, include:

  • Your full name and contact details;

  • Identification of the copyrighted work;

  • Identification of the material you believe infringes your rights;

  • The location of the material on our website;

11. ACTION ON VALID COPYRIGHT CLAIMS

Where we receive a credible copyright complaint, we may investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

  • Removing or restricting access to material;

  • Requesting additional information;

  • Contacting the relevant contributor or rights holder;

Submitting a copyright complaint does not automatically guarantee removal of content.

12. REPEAT INFRINGEMENT

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to website features or services where an individual or organisation repeatedly engages in copyright infringement or other intellectual property violations.

13. FAIR USE AND OTHER LEGAL EXCEPTIONS

Nothing in this Copyright Policy is intended to restrict rights that you may have under applicable copyright law.

Certain uses of copyrighted material may be permitted without prior permission under applicable legal exceptions, including provisions relating to criticism, review, reporting, education, research or other recognised exceptions.

Whether a particular use is permitted depends on the circumstances and applicable law.

14. COPYRIGHT AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS

The Exchange distributes content across multiple digital platforms, including websites, video platforms, podcast services and social media.

Content may therefore appear on platforms operated by third parties.

The terms and copyright policies of those platforms may also apply to content hosted or shared there.

Where appropriate, copyright concerns relating to content hosted directly on a third-party platform may also be addressed through that platform's own copyright reporting process.

15. PERMISSION TO USE OUR CONTENT

If you would like to reproduce or license material from The Exchange, please contact us before using it.

Your request should identify:

  • The specific material you wish to use;

  • How much of the material you intend to use;

  • Where it will appear;

  • The purpose of the use;

  • Whether the use is commercial;

  • The expected audience or distribution; and

  • The proposed duration of use.

Permission must be obtained before the intended use unless the use is otherwise permitted by applicable law.

Permission for one use does not automatically constitute permission for another.

16. COPYRIGHT POLICY UPDATES

We may update this Copyright Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our content, business operations, technology or applicable law.

The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised.
